I just visited the Crab Cooker a few days ago. They’ve put large boulders along the road so you have to walk the last 50-75 yards. There is a underground pipe with a shut off valve. Please make sure you close the valve when you leave as the posted signs say! Otherwise the water will be too hot for the next bathers. Also like all springs, clean up after yourself.
When I first visited on Thanksgiving 2003, this tub had been damaged by a careless driver who smashed into it and a volunteer was rebuilding the tub.
In May, the tub was just beautiful — but deadly hot. The plumbing that had been installed requires that you put a rock on the pipe from the source in a lidded well near the east end of the tub.
Bring a brush and bucket to clean it out — empty it and refill it and let it cool — it’ll be awesome!
