When, why and who closed Red's Meadow Hot Springs??? I was there in August only to find them closed. Rumor has it that the USFS closed it for "health reasons." October 28, 2014 espbooks@gmail.com
If you camp in the Devil’s Postpile valley, you’ve got to stop at Red’s Meadow Campground’s bath house. This is a “developed” hot spring. The water is piped down to some very old but private tubs/showers. The hot-spring fed showers are a huge welcome after a long day of hiking. The closer you are to the spring, the hotter the water in the showers are. I remember waiting for a shower as a child, praying that the showers furthest from the spring would become available first. Today you can still hear many a crying child in the stalls closest to the spring!
The USFS has no jurisdiction in this area, maybe the National Park Service?
